What We Should Know About Drop Cable?

Drop cable is crucial for the FTTH network. It forms the final external link between the subscriber/user and the feeder cable. Drop cable is designed for last-one-mile in the FTTH network, enhancing the accessibility to the fiber and maximizes the installation work ability. In this article, you’ll be learning about everything about the drop cable.
What is Drop Cable?
Drop cable (known as FTTH drop cable ) is the cable that runs from the distribution point or cable to the subscriber/user.Drop cable construction is that the optical fiber unit is positioned in the centre; two parallel strength members are placed at the two sides;a steel wire as the additional strength member is also applied; the cable is completed with a LSZH sheath. Drop cable can be installed aerially, underground, or buried.
Features and Benefits
Drop cables provide the following features and benefits:

Good waterproof performance

Low smoke, zero halogen and flame retardant sheath

Simple Structure, light weight and high practicability

FRP/steel wire strength member ensures anti-electromagnetic and good crush resistance

Special low-bend-sensitivity fiber provides high bandwidth data transmission

Novel flute design, easily strip and splice, simplicity installation and maintenance

Low cost

Drop Cable Types
Mainly types of drop cable include indoor FTTH indoor drop cable ( GJXFH, GJXH), outdoor FTTH Drop Cable (GJYXCH, GJYXFCH), flat drop cable, figure-8 aerial drop cable, and round drop cable.

Indoor FTTH Drop Cable (GJXFH, GJXH)
Indoor FTTH indoor drop cable ( GJXFH, GJXH) uses a butterfly flat structure, whose optical fiber unit is positioned in the centre. Two parallel fiber reinforce plastic (FRP) or steel wire strength members are placed at the two sides. Then, the cable is completed with LSZH sheath.
Outdoor FTTH Drop Cable (GJYXCH, GJYXFCH)
The optical fiber unit is positioned in the center. Two parallel strength members are placed at the two sides. A steel wire or FRP, KFRP as the additional strength member is also applied, then, the cable is completed with a black LSZH sheath.
Flat Drop Cable
Flat drop fiber cable is distinguished by its flat out-looking and is often made out of a polyethylene sheath, several fibers, and two dielectric strength members to give high crush resistance. Drop cable usually contains one or two fibers, however, drop cables with fiber counts up to 12 or more are also available now.
Figure-8 Aerial Drop Cable
Figure-8 aerial drop cable is self-supporting cable, with the cable fixed to a steel wire, designed for easy and economical aerial installation for outdoor applications.Typical fiber counts of figure-8 drop cable are 2 to 48. Tensile load is typically 6000 Newtons.
Round Drop Cable
Round drop cable usually contains a single bend-insensitive optical fiber buffered and surrounded by dielectric strength members and an outer jacket, which can provide durability and reliability in the drop segment of the network.
Applications
Drop cables are used in the following applications:

Access network

Used end users directly cabling

FTTH indoor cabling and distribution

FTTX

Office building

PC room, CATV,CCTV

Indoor/outdoor

Long-distance,local trunk line,

Computer network system, telecom,backbone

Self-supporting aerial, direct buried, or duct installations

Conclusion
FTTH drop fiber optic cable is a rugged and cost-effective solution for the last mile of the home. Sun Telecom provides all drop cable products and solutions to the global market.
